W7ASU is the callsign for the Amateur Radio Club at Arizona State University. If you are looking for a broadcasting club, we are not that (although it would be great to see one started at ASU!). Amateur Radio (ham radio) is a popular hobby and service that brings people, electronics and communication together. People use ham radio to talk across town, around the world, or even into space, all without the Internet or cell phones. It's fun, social, educational, and can be a lifeline during times of need.
W7ASU aims to uphold the hobby of Amateur Radio at Arizona State University by hosting various events for students as well as participating in the community. You do not need any previous Amateur Radio knowledge or experience to join, just an interest in learning! Currently, the club has a fully operation shack (radio operating room), handheld radios, and many other resources for students and faculty to use. For those that are new to radio, we can help you find away to get hands on experience with the hobby as well as preparation in order for you to get your license!
For current members, our website is brand new for the 2019-2020 school year! Take some time to familiarize yourself with it so you can take advantage of our club's resources. Make sure you create an account so you can access the pages for requesting shack access as well request to borrow a handheld.
W7ASU is one of the oldest clubs on campus! We were started in the 1920s! We strive to bring the hobby of Amateur Radio to today's students so they can realize the satisfaction of taking on the hobby as well as potentially give back to their community through Amateur Radio. We plan to host many meetings and events where students can expand their knowledge, meet new people, and enjoy some of the greatest of what Amateur Radio has to offer!
